Great Get Together Goes Global #MoreInCommon

Guest and Reblogs!

Just popping in to share this post, as it follows so nicely from ‘The Forgiving Woman’. This is a very thoughtful way of bringing the blogging community together, and it’s such a beautiful piece of writing – how could I resist? I’m sure Rowena would appreciate you leaving your comments on her blog and sharing this with your own communities too. Enjoy everyone ❤

PS. I left my answers in the comments on Rowena’s blog if you’d like to see mine!

Lately, I’ve been feeling quite overwhelmed by the latest terror attacks in the UK, which as we all know too well, are simply the latest chapters in a much longer story. Despite believing in the power of the pen to overcome the sword and in the power of the individual to change the world, or at least influence the world around them, I am starting to doubt. These attacks are so random and unpredictable and the victims ordinary people…it’s all becoming quite impossible to fathom.

For those of you who have been following my blog for some time, you’ll know that I’ve been part of a global blogging group 1000 Voices for Compassion, which started up after the attacks on Paris. However, I’d already been speaking out against terrorism  following the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 in the Ukraine and the Lindt Cafe Siege in Sydney. Journalists covering…

Philosophy

Hello everybody,

How are we all? Enjoying the sun?

Sorry for no written post last night. Sometimes Wednesday is my only opportunity to create as far as evenings go and I was really in the mood to film. Having the confidence to sit and talk to a camera comes a lot rarer to me than filming my blogs or fictions so I hope you understand. Jumping on the opportunity was a must! To make up for it, here is that video for your Thursday entertainment:

I will post again as usual on Saturday evening.

It’s gonna be a revieeeew.

Take care of yourselves everyone,

Ps. If you are viewing my blog and wondering what the f*ck happened to the design… I am experimenting and hope to have a completely redesigned blog by the end of July. Just bare with me – it’s gonna be so worth it!

The Forgiving Woman

Philosophy

The video plays in my memory, and it’s a woman – just any ordinary woman you would pass on the street, and think no more than ordinary thoughts – She’s wedged herself between the ajar crack of the front door and it’s frame. Among the flashing lights and shoving cameras and bustling journalists I remember she is crying. Not just crying but weeping, deep in mourning. She has just found out her daughter has been murdered.

But her teardrops are a sound lost in the gaps of journalists’ traps:

“What would you like to say to her murderers?”

What would you like to say to her murderers?

And above everything; above my anguish for the journalists’ cruel lack of empathy, above watching that woman’s life be torn apart; nothing resounds louder than her reply:

I forgive them. And I will forgive them every day, for as long as I live.

*********************************************************************************

These words have stuck to me for years. They appeared on a *now very old* news story as I have detailed, what I can remember, above. Instinctively I feel I was in primary school when I saw it, but can’t be too sure. (After a quick google search, I haven’t been able to find it either – it may have been lost among a string of similar cases.) Luckily, I have my writing skills on hand to describe it to you and I hope I did such an effective job as when I was the viewer!

Recently I have been trying to think of more coffee shares to film and philosophy posts to write. With the recent string of events in England, nothing seems quite right at the moment. If you have any other suggestions, please leave them in the comments. It’s always greatly appreciated 😊

Best wishes to everyone,

Spring Thoughts

Diary, Inspiration, Philosophy

As the temperature is rising and the Summer is approaching, I thought it would be nice just to reflect on the Spring we have had. Tomorrow I will be heading to Brighton which I feel marks the beginning of my Summer adventures – of course this will be featured in my May chapter (stay tuned!). For now, here is some *artsy* photos I took this month containing quotes to sum up my Spring:

I will also just drop this here for your viewing pleasure – and a little bit more insight!

Until the last day of May, take care everyone

Sushi, yo!

Diary, Reviews

Despite a real lack in my social skills, I do really love to be out in the social scene. On Monday I was spontaneously invited to get sushi with my boyfriend and friends and I thought – instead of the heavy philosophy I seem to have *doused* my blog with through May – I would just take some pictures of the yummy food and share them with you. What’s better than ramen in the rain?

We went to the restaurant ‘Yo sushi!’ which have a Blue Monday special ie. lots of cheap yet yummy plates on the conveyor belt!

Although we went for sushi, I was really craving ramen and couldn’t help myself! It was amazing ^.^

As you can see we didn’t go sparingly…

Hope you enjoyed this quick lil’ post and you’re having a great week so far! I know it has been raining today but I came home very excited to find my new summer dresses that I ordered. Wishing to share them with you at the weekend. Stay tuned!

Mental Health Awareness

Inspiration, Lifestyle, Philosophy

As you will probably know by now, this week was mental health awareness week. I’m sure there has been many posts uploaded on this topic this week, let alone by all the people campaigning all year for better mental health. Light Writes began as a way for me to share my fictional writing with you all. I’m not too sure if anyone will have noticed the theme of mental health that runs through these pieces, as well as my consistency to have some sort of philosophical meaning to each post I create. (But if they have helped you in any way, I’m glad!)

Closing April’s chapter

Diary, Lifestyle

I think April was a bit of an odd month for my blog. Nothing really seems to have tied down recently and it has left me wondering what kind of blogger am I anyway?! A lot has definitely changed since I started – aside from the fact I still don’t really know what I’m doing… and I think this month has really made me realise just how many blogs are out there.

Life is like a cup of coffee

Blogging/Writing Tips, Diary, Inspiration, Philosophy

For the first time in a while I have sat at my blog just to write about something I love. No planning necessary and no pressure to be witty or wise. If you consider me either of these things anyway! Tonight all I wanted was a coffee. It’s not been a bad day or anything like that – I just wanted it real bad.
